Easter fixes

Multiplayer cursors and the title Fixes.

Happy Easter everyone!

Here's what the team did last week before Easter break.

  • We gave the "in system" notification a lot of love (UI-wise and they are also clickable now - i.e., clicking accepted campaign invite takes you to the campaign).
  • Also, two new in-app notifications, a notification if a user joined a campaign you are in or if a user left a campaign you are in
  • Fixed layout issue for Universal Character sheets that have multiple tabs.
  • The multiplayer cursor indicator in the notes now follows the color of your character token.
  • Fixed a visual bug in tables within notes and using roll buttons.
  • Fixed a scrollbar bug in our sheets.
  • Fixed a bug where claimable characters could be set as hidden.

We emerge from our Easter break full of chocolate eggs and close to releasing a very big feature. We are very excited to share that news with you next week :)

Polishing the TTRPG writing and reading experience

Sparkles around Improvements

Improvements and polish.

Between larger projects, like our AI Notes and bringing Character Sheets to our iOS and Android Mobile Apps, we like to spend time with our current features. We take great pride in our craft and love sitting by the hearth and applying a thick layer of polish.

Here’s a rundown of our improvements in the last 7 days:

  • AI Notes.
    • Improved shortcuts. Hit enter to start and escape to cancel.
    • Improved how we pull information about your character into AI Notes.
  • Library.

Improvements for preparing and playing TTRPGs.

Sparkling Improvements

It's the small things so you can enjoy preparing and playing your favorite TTRPGs.

Greetings, Keepers of Arcane Lore, Masters of Games, and Rollers of Dice,

We're looking forward to showcasing a few big features we're working on, but today, we're listing the small, big things. The stuff that significantly affects our quality of life as we prepare and play our favorite TTRPGs!

  • Mobile. We made massive improvements to the battery performance of our iOS and Android apps - as well as a lot of polish and improvements.
  • Notes. We made many improvements to tables in Campaign Notes and Character Sheets; they’re now more manageable to work with, copy, and paste. We also fixed an issue where Roll buttons would sometimes not work in pop-out notes.
  • Characters. We now remember your sorting preference on the characters overview page and added some excellent polish.
  • Library. We’ve added buttons to navigate to the "next page" and "previous page" for more straightforward navigation.
  • Chat. We fixed a long-running issue where opening the chat for the first time would sometimes fail.
  • Sessions: Fixed the Mic indicator, for some weird cases.
  • Scenes. Fixed a couple of issues with video scenes. Placing tokens would sometimes misbehave.
  • Campaigns. Claiming pre-made campaigns would sometimes have empty Character Sheets.

In total, we completed 40 bug tickets and 48 polish tasks since our last changelog 🎉

New TTRPG Game Systems in our Library

Three new SRD's in our Library.

Image showing three Roleplaying Systems, Fate Core, Mark of the Odd and Forged in the Dark

Hey all!
We are back after some relaxing vacation time, and all of us are getting really excited for the coming months. 🥳

Awesome SRD's added to our library

The highlight of this week is that we have added two new SRD’s to the library! These are two awesome roleplaying games that I am sure you will love and that some of you have been waiting for.

🔵 Fate Core SRD

A roleplaying game about ordinary people who live pretty dramatic lives. The System is perfect for people who want to play out a blockbuster movie or in a world where something is just a little bit off. You could get inspired by watching The Unsleeping City by Dimension 20, where Brennan shows his love of New York City or check out Lockwood and Co, a paranormal post-apocalyptic world. Super sweet system to write your own stories!

Fate uses the Fudge dice roll system so of course, we needed to add some dice to Quest Portal! You can now roll dice that shows blank, minus, and plus by writing /roll 1df in the chat. You can also create dice rolls by using brackets. For example [[1df]] to roll one Fate dice.

🥳 Evil Hat and Randy Oest

Evil Hat is an awesome company that you should go check out if you haven't. They publish Fate and many more Game Systems.
https://evilhat.com/

Randy Oest has done some awesome work making Table Top Roleplaying games accessible, check out their project at https://randyoest.com/; you will not be disappointed.

🍄 Into the Odd SRD added to the library.

An awesome theatre of the mind-system created by Chris McDowall. You might recognize the name Electric Bastionaland, which expands on the Into the Odd system. You should check him Chris's work at https://www.bastionland.com/

Into the Odd has also been used as an inspiration for many games, such as Mausritter! 🐭

💎 Improvement to Blades in the Dark SRD

We added Blades in the Dark a couple of weeks back and now we have improved the library linking for the Assistant, it should be more accurate and give you better information.

✨All of the SRD’s have a dedicated Assistant

If you have Quest Portal Pro, then you can use The Assistant for all of these systems. They can brainstorm with you ideas about your homebrew world and link you to the rules and resources.

🤷‍♀️ What about the tech stuff?

We have been working on improving the mobile experience behind the scenes, making things work smoother and eventually look better for the next release, the fancy 2.0.0!

Let us know if you decide to run Fate Core, Into the Odd or Blades in the Dark and tell us what type of shenanigans you got into! And happy world-creating from all of us here at Quest Portal 🧙

The Lightless Beacon - A scenario just for you!

The digital cover of The Lightless Beacon from Quest Portal.

Claim a free scenario & start playing your heart out.

We have a gift for you! Free adventure packed with scenes and atmosphere. The Lightless Beacon is an awesome Call of Cthulhu scenario that is perfect for new and experienced keepers to run. Take your investigators on a ride! You can copy the scenario from the Home screen slideshow.

Introduction

Welcome to The Lightless Beacon, this year’s Call of Cthulhu scenario for the first Greg Stafford Day—a day to celebrate the life and works of Greg and The Chaosium he founded way back in 1975. We hope you’ll be able to gather some friends and enjoy this scenario together.

The Lightless Beacon is set on Beacon Island, near Rockport, Massachusetts, on April 12th, 1926. It is intended as a short introductory scenario for novice Keepers, new players, or both! Experienced players and Keepers should also find something to enjoy here, too. Designed to be run in as little as one hour, this game is ideal for those who don’t have the time for a longer game session, or are just building up their confidence with the Call of Cthulhu RPG.

While The Lightless Beacon is presented as a standalone adventure and comes with four pre-generated investigators (enabling you to dive right in), it could also form the start of a new campaign, as it throws together complete strangers and plunges them into the world of the Cthulhu Mythos before they have a chance to catch their breath. There’s a mystery to solve, a threat to overcome, and a glimpse at the true horrors lurking in the darkness: all key themes of a good Call of Cthulhu adventure!

Find scenes faster

A search field with "Library" sits above two different library scenes.

Then it's great you're running on Quest Portal because finding new scenes is easy. Just open the scenes tool and type what you want. We'll be adding many more scenes soon, so the new search feature will help you browse the beautiful art faster.

💎 Improvements

🧪 Preview

Preview features are unstable; use with caution! Turn these feature previews on in Account Settings.

Want to take some notes during a session but don't want to lose your immersion? Now you can write and read your notes in the Notes tool. What's even better, you can share those notes with the group by creating group/campaign notes that are shared.

Notes are a handy block-style editor, similar to Notion, that allows you to create and rearrange blocks as you see fit.

The notes tool is available to game masters and players. Don't forget to have your favourite notes handy by favouriting them!

Notes are a central feature in Quest Portal that will get a lot of love in the coming months.

Set the Scene

The scenes drawer in Quest Portal. The Game Master is ordering scenes by dragging them.

Viewing and organizing scenes in a session.

We're super excited to announce our Scenes feature. Role-playing is about collaborative storytelling, and setting the scene where those stories unfold is important. We've created Scenes to feel like a slideshow. The game master can easily navigate between the different scenes with the visuals and the atmosphere already attached and autoplay.

Scenes are a game master tool and won't be available for players to see.

What is a scene?

A scene is a narrative beat in your story, a backdrop to a collection of actions, a battlemap, or generic background. It's whatever visual the game master wants to show the players while the story is being told. Each scene comprises a visual and, optionally a soundscape/music. This way, when you change scenes, the atmosphere changes as well. As we build out Scenes, this feature will start to include more visuals you can show your players.

You can create your scene by uploading a visual and attaching your music. Or, you can use the hundreds of pre-made scenes in the Scenes tool.

We've partnered with many creators in the TTRPG space to provide us with background art, battlemaps, music and soundscapes.
