Where to Buy Daggerheart: Tracking a Rare TTRPG Treasure

Daggerheart is one of 2025’s most sought-after TTRPGs and one of the hardest to track down physically. This guide helps you find a copy (and start playing right now) with tips for physical retail, resale, digital bundles, and online play on Quest Portal.

Daggerheart: Instant Classic, Instant Scarcity

Launched in May 2025, Daggerheart is a bold fantasy RPG from Darrington Press, the publishing arm of Critical Role. It’s powered by an emotionally rich system of dual d12 dice (Hope and Fear), with character mechanics built for narrative drama, tactical action, and spotlight moments. Whether you're new to TTRPGs or a storytelling veteran, Daggerheart delivers cinematic play with a collaborative soul. The hype was real, and the stock, well… wasn’t.

Demand crushed supply at launch. North America, the UK, and parts of Europe saw limited waves. Iceland's retailer Nexus was lucky enough to get 35 copies, which, for a country of 380,000, is a pretty good indicator of how nerdy we are. Still, all 35 sold out immediately.

What Comes in the Box?

There are two official versions of the Daggerheart Core Set:

  • Standard Core Set (~ USD 59.99): Includes the full rules, premade characters, action cards, tokens, and a beginner-friendly layout.
  • Limited Edition Box Set (~ USD 149.99): A deluxe version with embossed cover, custom dice, extra art, Game Master screen, and upgraded components.

Both editions are highly sought after and often sold out the moment they're listed. If you're hunting one down, here’s how to maximize your chances.

Where to Buy Daggerheart (Physical Copies)

1. Darrington Press Guild Stores & Critical Role Shop

The official Guild Stores are your best bet for retail authenticity. Friendly Local Game Stores (FLGS) partnered with Darrington Press are often prioritized for early stock. The Critical Role EU Shop has listed Daggerheart for sale, but restocks vanish fast.

These are the most reliable for authentic bundles, and they include the PDF with purchase.

Check both the UK/EU and US/CA versions of the CR shop regularly. Some stores ship to other countries. Try going through the checkout process and see if you can get one sent across borders (or oceans).

Tip: Even if a website says “sold out,” contact the store to see if they have a waitlist or pre-order system.

2. Online Book & Hobby Retailers

Here’s a shortlist of stores that have stocked Daggerheart:

  • Barnes & Noble (US)
  • Books-A-Million
  • Indigo (Canada)
  • Zavvi (UK)
  • Rogue State Games (US)
  • Stone Monkey (Australia)

Many of these sites offer pre-order notices, wishlists, or email alerts for restocks. Signing up can be your foot in the digital door. Some will let you pre-order for when the next wave of distribution.

3. Amazon: Global Wild Card

Amazon listings fluctuate wildly. You might see Core Sets for MSRP one day and triple that price the next.

Check these:

Tip: Set location preferences and create wishlist alerts to catch flash availability.

4. Resale Markets (Use Caution)

If you’re determined to find a Limited Edition Box Set, resale might be your only path. Options include:

  • eBay
  • Facebook Marketplace
  • BoardGameGeek’s GeekMarket

Prices can skyrocket ($250–$500+ for the Limited Edition!!), and stock is inconsistent. Use these options only if you're prepared for a markup and can verify the seller.

Tip: If you're going this route, look for unopened, sealed listings with seller history and buyer protection.

5. Go Digital

There's nothing quite like the smell of a good book. But needs must. And luckily, the best part of the Daggerheart community rollout is that it isn’t gatekept by product shortages. You can start playing right now; no physical box is needed.

Want to learn the rules, build characters, and explore domains today? Digitally, there are two options. First off is purchasing a digital copy, called the Nexus Core Set, from the official Critical Role Store or DriveThruRPG.

Secondly, the full Daggerheart SRD (System Reference Document) is available for free on Quest Portal, so you can:

  • Learn how Hope and Fear dice work
  • Build your party using our no-code Character Sheets
  • Plan campaigns with shared notes, rules, and scene tools

Final Word: Hunt the Box, But Play the Game

Finding Daggerheart is hard right now. There’s no sugarcoating that. But the world of Daggerheart, the emotion-laced dice rolls, spotlight moments, hope vs. fear drama, is already waiting for you.

So keep looking. Set those alerts. Talk to your local game shop. Watch the mailbox. The Core Set will come. And in the meantime? Grab the SRD, gather your friends, and tell a story worth remembering. Because you don’t need the box to start playing from the heart.
