Give them a place in your world
One character. A whole new story.
Copy your NPC into Quest Portal notes, keep their secrets close, and build the next session around them.
How to turn a random NPC into a memorable encounter
Give them a job
Pick a guide, scholar, trader, or local. A clear role gives the party a reason to talk to them, even when the players take an unexpected turn.
Put a want in the way
Use the motivation to decide what they will offer, refuse, or bargain for. Reveal their mannerism and first impression through your description.
Leave a thread to pull
The secret and quest hook give you something to return to. Copy the result, make it your own, and note what changes after the party meets them.
About this NPC generator
What does the generator create?
Each NPC has a name, role, appearance, mannerism, motivation, secret, and quest hook. It combines original written ideas; it does not create a rules-specific stat block. Choose fantasy for adventurers and strange settlements, or cosmic horror for investigators and unsettling mysteries.
Can I use these NPCs in D&D or Call of Cthulhu?
Yes. The characters are system-neutral story prompts, so you can adapt them to Dungeons & Dragons, Call of Cthulhu, or another tabletop RPG. Add the statistics and rules your game needs. No official game content or rules compatibility is implied.
Is this free, and do I need an account?
Generating, editing, and copying NPCs here is free and needs no account. Creating a campaign in Quest Portal is a separate step. You can also paste your NPC into any notes app.
Are my edits saved?
Your edits stay in the current tab and are not sent to a generation service. Copy anything you want to keep before generating another character, refreshing, or leaving the page.
