Descent into the Darkness: Dice Pools Come to Quest Portal

Three new Character Sheets. Full dice pool support. Streamlined rerolls. This fall, we're embracing the shadows.

As autumn tightens its grip and the northern sun dims to a flicker, the mood at Quest Portal naturally shifts. There’s something about the long nights, the howling wind, the cold that cuts to the bone... it makes you reach for darker stories. Bleak ones. Beautiful ones. The kind you find in the World of Darkness.

And this year, we didn’t just light a candle, we dove headfirst into the dark.

Because no other setting hits quite like it. World of Darkness isn’t just about vampires or werewolves or ghost-hunters. It’s about the rot under the surface. The compromises we make. The question of what’s left of your soul once the monster takes the reins.

It also feels weirdly personal. Some of us at Quest Portal grew up on these games: Vampire the Masqeurade, Werewolf the Apocalypse and Hunter: The Reckoning. And let’s be honest: brooding Scandinavian horror with moral ambiguity and ancient trauma? Yeah, that hits close to home.

So when we started upgrading our dice pool engine, we knew exactly where we wanted to test it.

Let’s break it down. Here's what we’ve added for World of Darkness fans:

You can now dive into any chronicle with sleek, system-specific sheets that handle attributes, disciplines, powers, health, willpower, conditions, etc.

• Vampire: The Masquerade (V5) Sheet
• Werewolf: The Apocalypse (W5) Sheet
• Hunter: The Reckoning (H5) Sheet

Dice pools matter in WoD because they drip with tension. We rebuilt how they work in Quest Portal to capture that drama:

• Roll pools with modifiers, hunger dice, and edge.
• Visual clarity for success thresholds, messy crits, and bestial failures.
• Clean readouts so the story never pauses.

You know that moment when a roll almost (but not quite) lands? Now you can reroll directly from the message in chat. No sheet diving. No flow-breaking. Just click and move the story forward.

Note: This feature is currently desktop-only. Mobile support is coming soon; we’re on it.

World of Darkness is at its best when players grapple with impossible choices, not toggling menus. That’s why every design decision here, from sheet layout to reroll UX, is built to keep immersion intact. The system should disappear behind the story.

This is just the beginning. Dice pool mechanics show up in more than just WoD. And we want to hear from you:

A: Absolutely. Hunger dice are handled automatically and shown distinctly in roll results.
