What are Credits?
We launched our first Quest Portal Assistant subscription in early 2023. Back then it was called Elder and only helped you answer questions about Call of Cthulhu and be creative. Since then the world of AI and Assistants has been changing constantly. We are now at a point where new breakthroughs are coming out every few months.
With the new Quest Portal Assistant we took our biggest step towards ensuring we bring those breakthroughs to our users and subscribers as quickly as they come out. However, with the rapidly changing landscape of possibilities within the space of artificial intelligence, we have seen the industry standardize around monetizing based on usage. Each interaction with these LLMs and image generation models are charged based on tokens or volume. Along with us adapting to the breakthroughs, we also need to adapt to the new way to pay.
So, we are introducing Credits and three new subscription plans.
When you sign up for a Quest Portal Assistant subscription you can choose between three plans: Plus, Pro, and Max. Each unlocks a certain amount of Credits, gives you access to storage and upload limits, or provides you with functionality limited to that plan.
How do Credits get used?
When you ask the Assistant to perform tasks or ask questions, it will cost Credits. The amounts used to perform different tasks vary. We have made a few standardizations, but ultimately, it comes down to how much input goes into your prompt and the output you are getting from the Assistant. See the FAQ below for details on that.
Your monthly allocated Credits can run out. If that happens, you can buy one-time top-ups of Credits. These top-up Credits will be active for a full year or until you finish them. Your monthly Credit allowance is only active during that billing cycle. Even our free users can buy extra credits if they desire.
Credits bought through an annual plan are also allocated in monthly batches, starting on the day you start your subscription, with the next allocation coming on the same day of the next month. Why do the annual plan, then you ask? Well, you do get 12 months of Credit allocations for the price of 9. That’s a full 25% discount!
New abilities, more power
With this transition to a Credits system, we are also making some other changes.
First, folks have told us that the feature sharing and content sharing of the now legacy Pro Campaigns plan has been a godsend. There is just something magical about GM and players being able to use the power of the Assistant. Therefore, we have decided to make this available to all subscribers through Campaign Boosting.
The game master or players can apply Boosts to a campaign, unlocking the Assistant and content sharing in that campaign. When applying a Boost, you can choose to allocate a certain amount of Credits to the boost that can be used up by others in the campaign.
Second, we are introducing storage and upload limits that get more generous with each subscription plan. We want to be able to support more ways for the Assistant to work with files and the sensible thing is to place some limits on how big the files can be and how much storage users can use up.
Finally, we are applying the 10% Marketplace discount to the Pro and Max plans. This was another line item in the legacy Pro Campaigns plan that subscribers have been happy with. We think it only makes sense to bring it to more people.

I’m currently a subscriber. How does this affect me?
You can continue on your current subscription tier as long as you want and enjoy benefits beyond the new plans. We have sent everyone who is a subscriber an email with details about the changes and their effect on their subscription.

Does every interaction with the Assistant cost the same amount of Credits?
No, different actions spend different amounts of Credits. Here’s some guidelines on how much actions costs:
Generating a campaign using the Campaign Generation flow = 25-50 Credits
Generating a character using the Character Generation flow = 10-25 Credits
Generating an image = 8-12 Credits
Other messaging and tasks = Variable spend.
