Quest Portal now brings an initiative tracker, session scheduling, custom dice skins and a way to connect Claude or ChatGPT to your campaigns. It also replaces the free plan with two plans, Core and Pro, and every account can try one free for 30 days.
The new Quest Portal is live on the web and in version 10.0.0 of the iOS and Android apps. Here's what's new, what the plans cost, and what changes for your account.
The short version
New at the table: run combat with the Initiative Tracker, schedule sessions and collect answers, roll with your own dice, and connect Claude or ChatGPT to your campaigns.
New plans: Core ($2.99/month, or $29.99 once) is the complete virtual tabletop. Pro ($9.99/month, or $89.99/year) adds the AI tools and 1,200 credits a month.
The free plan is ending. Every account gets a free 30-day trial instead, with no card needed. Existing free accounts get a Pro trial and 300 credits automatically.
If you already pay, you keep your plan's features and get Pro's on top. Details below.
What's new
Initiative Tracker
Run combat turn by turn, right next to your scenes. Plan encounters ahead of time in Notes, start one when the fight begins, and your players follow the turn order live on web and mobile. Hide an ambush by hiding the NPC: players never see hidden characters, not even how many there are.
How to run it: Initiative Tracker
Session Scheduling
Put your group's next session on the campaign page. Set up a one-off or recurring schedule, or describe it in your own words to the Schedule Assistant ("every Tuesday at 7pm, and every other Saturday at 1pm"). Players answer Going or Can't make it, see the time in their own time zone, and add every session to Google, Apple or Outlook calendar. Quest Portal reminds anyone who hasn't answered.
The GM sets up the schedule on the web. Everyone can answer on web and mobile.
How to set it up: Session Scheduling
Custom Dice Skins
Roll dice made from your own artwork. Import a skin as a ZIP in Account settings → Dice, or ask Claude or ChatGPT to design one for you ("midnight-blue marble dice with gold numbers"). Your skin is used every time you roll in 3D, and the mobile app rolls with the skin you chose.
How to make one: Custom Dice Skins
Connect Claude and ChatGPT
Ask Claude or ChatGPT to prep your campaign, and it makes the changes in Quest Portal for you: "Create an NPC for the tavern keeper", "Write up last session's loot as a note", "Move Thursday's session to 7:30". The assistant works with your campaigns, characters, notes, scenes, schedules and dice skins, and only with what you can already open.
The AI runs in Claude or ChatGPT, on your plan there, so it doesn't use Quest Portal credits. Connecting needs Pro or the Pro trial.

A quicker start for new accounts
New accounts get a short setup: your profile, what you want to do, joining or creating your first campaign, and picking your free trial.
Why we're changing the plans
Until now, most people used Quest Portal for free, and a small number of subscribers paid for everyone. That isn't something we can keep up while we build the features you ask for. So the free plan is ending, and there are now two plans, with a free trial so you can see if Quest Portal is right for your table before you pay anything.
Core and Pro
Core: $2.99/month, or $29.99 once. The complete virtual tabletop: campaigns, characters, scenes, maps, notes, dice, the initiative tracker and session scheduling. Core doesn't include credits or the AI tools.
Pro: $9.99/month, or $89.99/year. Everything in Core, plus the Game Master Assistant, AI generation, AI Notes, PDF imports, session recordings and transcripts, and connecting Claude or ChatGPT. Pro includes 1,200 credits a month for the AI tools.
One plan covers the whole table. When anyone in a campaign has Core or Pro, or a trial, everyone in that campaign can play there without a plan of their own. Your own campaigns and the AI tools need your own plan.
Credits never expire. Credits from Pro, from a trial and from top-ups stay on your account and carry over.

Try it free for 30 days
Every account gets one free 30-day trial of Core or Pro:
No card or payment method needed.
Nothing is charged when it ends, and it doesn't renew.
The Pro trial includes 300 credits, added once you verify your email. Google and Apple sign-ins count as verified.
Start with Core and you can switch to the Pro trial at any time; your end date stays the same.
What it means for your account
If you're on the free plan, you get a free 30-day Pro trial and 300 credits, on top of any credits you already have. If you've used Quest Portal in the last 30 days, your trial starts on launch day. Otherwise it starts the first time you open Quest Portal on the web or in version 10.0.0 of the app. When the trial ends, nothing is charged and your campaigns, characters and notes stay. You can still open and read them, but making changes and running sessions in your own campaigns needs Core or Pro.
If you have Pro or Max, nothing changes.
If you pay for another subscription (Plus, Chaosium Core, Elder, Campaign Access or another older plan), you get Pro's features for as long as you keep paying for it. Your credits work as they do today: you keep what your subscription already gives you, but it doesn't add Pro's 1,200 monthly credits. You can buy more when you run out.
If you bought a lifetime plan, you get Pro's features permanently. It doesn't add Pro's monthly credits; you can buy credits when you need them.
Your credits stay. Whatever plan you're on, your credit balance is unchanged, and credits never expire.
Mobile app 10.0.0
The new plans, the new setup and the Combat tab come with version 10.0.0 of the iOS and Android apps, so update when you can. Older versions keep working.
From 10.0.0 the app no longer has a Marketplace tab. Browse and buy books and adventures on the web; everything you own still shows up in the app.

Questions
Do I need a card for the trial?
No. The trial is free from start to finish and doesn't turn into a paid plan.
What happens to my campaigns if I don't pick a plan?
They stay, and you can still open and read them. To make changes or run sessions in them, you need Core or Pro, or someone at the table with a plan.
My GM has Pro. Do I need a plan?
Not to play in their campaign. You need your own plan to run your own campaigns, and your own Pro to use the AI tools.
Does using Claude or ChatGPT cost credits?
No. Credits only pay for the AI tools inside Quest Portal.
Where do I manage or cancel my plan?
On the web, in Settings → Billing. If you bought in the app, manage it in the App Store or Google Play. See Plans and Billing.
If something isn't working, email support@questportal.com.
